From independent artisans to global enterprises. We create brands for ambitious clients.
Holt is a traditional market town, situated near the North Norfolk coast, with a history that stretches back to Roman times. It boasts 118 listed buildings as well as a vibrant collection of independent shops, restaurants and places to stay. With an annual headline arts festival, Holt is thriving today while maintaining a strong connection with its past.
Tasked with creating an identity for the town, we wanted to give its people – the end-users of the brand – a feeling of shared ownership and room for their own creative input. There was no single client for this project. Instead, we needed to secure buy-in from a group of local business owners and wider community, to create an identity that truly reflected the people of Holt and their hometown. The branding process aimed to bring different parts of the town together to create a communal identity they could feel proud of and excited by.
At the core of the brand is the message that the people of Holt love their town. The open ‘O’ letterform allows users to fill the logo with their own content or take ownership of specific words such as ‘love style’ for a fashion store. ‘Love fresh’ for a bakery, ‘love music’ for a festival and so on.
Love Holt benefits from a flexible, living identity, perpetuated by the hashtag #LoveHolt employed to spread the word across social media. The brand is truly owned by the community it was created for and inspired by.
The word marque can be purely typographic or integrated with imagery to showcase the town’s unique and diverse offerings.
The identity is supported by an easy-to-use brand guidelines document which provides as much inspiration as it does rules to follow.
